I whisper "ah" again,
as quiet brilliance ends the day,
As heaven seems to pause
and softly smile the light away.
I wonder of the glow
of sable shadows so serene
and say,"If day be king,
the pearly darkness must be queen!"
For once again, I've slipped
behind the twinkling gates of peace,
When all the earth agrees
the worries of the day should cease.
And oh, the gift of ease
And calming sighs the silence brings,
When peaceful blessings fall
And drift from evening's starlit wings.
So sweet the solitude
when God has made the earth be stilled,
When I can rest my cares
until the dawning day's revealed...
Then toil through the day
and watch for heaven's sapphire floor
to shimmer, shining sweet
God's masterpiece... of peace once more.
